Things movers won’t move — what to check before booking movers
Hey guys — I’m planning a move soon, and started sorting all my stuff. But then I realised: not everything should go into the moving truck. I have some old cleaning supplies, a couple of propane tanks from my old grill, a half‑used paint can, and maybe some spare pesticides — just random leftovers I forgot to get rid of. So I’m a bit worried: can movers refuse to take such items? Is it really possible that I have to throw away or transport part of my stuff myself? I don’t want to discover a refusal on moving day and deal with panicking over half my junk.

That’s a smart concern — I ran into a similar problem last time I moved. I checked a guide on what items movers won't move and it was really eye‑opening. According to that guide, hazardous materials — flammables (like paint, propane tanks, solvents), corrosives (cleaners, chemicals), aerosols, explosives, and even certain gas tanks are typically off‑limits. Because of that, I ended up using up or safely disposing of old cleaning liquids, drained fuel and gave away chemicals before move‑out date. In addition, things like pets or live plants, and perishable food are often not allowed too.
