The Best Dance Music MV of 2023 - Damn It, You Need to Watch This

Although Scotty McCreery's heart is broken in his song "Damn Strait," it had to be full after filming its music video. The self-proclaimed Strait superfan chose the legendary Gruene Hall as the backdrop.

Strait chose "Check Yes or No" for the Idol contestant to sing. McCreery would go on to win the season, launching his country music career. Fellow country artist Lauren Alaina was the runner-up that year.

Take a scroll through TikTok's FYP and chances are you'll come across at least one creator breaking it down to Lizzo's latest bop, "About Damn Time." Released in April ahead of her "Special" album drop this summer, the catchy single has inspired an equally as catchy dance challenge that's flooding social media and sending the track to the top of music charts left and right.

It all started when 22-year-old dancer Jaeden Gomez created a routine set to the song's second verse and shared it on TikTok, tagging Lizzo in the caption. A few days later, the Yitty founder herself executed the moves in a video, writing "Love this dance tbh" and giving Gomez a shoutout as the original creator. Since then, she's done the dance multiple times, including once in the middle of the desert wearing a black bikini and once at the Met Gala in her corseted Thom Browne dress. Hundreds of TikTok users, including Joe Jonas, Jenna Dewan, Bretman Rock, and Jonathan Van Ness, have followed suit and memorized the upbeat moves.

"I actually felt like I was in a fever dream," Gomez tells POPSUGAR of her reaction to seeing Lizzo perform her dance on TikTok for the first time. "Knowing that my dance is not only blowing up on TikTok but has now moved to Instagram is so outstanding. All the love we are both getting is absolutely amazing." Currently pursuing a full-time dance career in Los Angeles with hopes of going on tour with an artist, Gomez also touched on the value of recognizing TikTokers for their original creations, as Lizzo has consistently done with her. "Giving the dance creator credit is a very important thing in the dance community," she says. "[Lizzo] constantly knows how important it is to the dancer to showcase their work."

Damn Yankees is a 1955 musical comedy with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend[1] set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball. It is based on Wallop's 1954 novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant.

Though Joe is increasingly successful, he truly misses Meg and moves into her house as a boarder in his persona as Joe Hardy. They begin to bond, especially over her "lost" husband ("A Man Doesn't Know"). Fearful of losing his deal, Applegate calls Lola, "the best homewrecker on [his] staff", to seduce Joe and ensure his loss of the bet. She promises to deliver ("A Little Brains, A Little Talent"), and Applegate introduces her as a sultry South American dancer named "Señorita Lolita Banana". She sings a seductive song ("Whatever Lola Wants"), but Joe's devotion to Meg proves too strong, even for her. Applegate punishes her by firing her, where she performs with other past workers for Applegate ("Who's Got the Pain").

The producers Frederick Brisson, Robert E. Griffith and Harold S. Prince[2] had decided that the lead actress for the part of "Lola" had to be a dancer. They offered the role to both the movie actress Mitzi Gaynor and ballet dancer Zizi Jeanmaire, each of whom turned down the role. Although Gwen Verdon had sung just one song in her previous show (Can-Can), the producers were willing to take a chance on her. She initially refused, preferring to assist another choreographer, but finally agreed. Choreographer Bob Fosse insisted on meeting her before working with her, and after meeting and working for a brief time, they each agreed to the arrangement.[3] This was the start of an artistic and personal partnership between Fosse and Verdon, who married in 1960.

The show opened on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on May 5, 1955, transferred to the Adelphi Theatre on May 17, 1957, and ran for a total of 1,019 performances. It was directed by George Abbott, with scenery and costumes by William and Jean Eckart, dances and musical numbers staged by Fosse, musical direction by Hal Hastings, orchestrations by Don Walker, and dance music arrangements by Roger Adams.

In 1983, Ray Walston expressed interest in recreating Applegate in Raisin' Cane, a new musical in which the devil returns to ruin Broadway. In a spin on Damn Yankees, this time Applegate takes a young girl and grows her up and gets her the lead in a Broadway show, planning to change her back, bankrupting all the investors. Book, music and lyrics are by San Francisco Bay Area writer/lyricist/composer Ted Kopulos.

In 2009, it was announced that a new contemporary film adaptation of the musical will star Jim Carrey as Applegate and Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe Hardy.[24] No further announcements about this adaptation have been made since (as of December 2020).

In July 2018, David Guetta and British singer Anne-Marie dropped their fantastic collaboration 'Don't Leave Me Alone'. Nearly a month after its release, the pair dropped their official music video for the hit song which featured Anne-Marie in her apartment when she receives a parcel. On opening it, the parcel turns out to be a VR headset which she puts on. Once in a new dimension, Anne-Marie finds herself experiencing a strobe-lit dance floor, then a picturesque forest with and bitter mountaintops, she eventually 'sees' her ideal partner.

They move through a broad range of styles, taking cues from 80's pop, early 90's dance, and old skool hip-hop, sometimes within the same song. They tie it all together with pop hooks and 8-bit Nintendo samples, accompanied by live projections of the band's self-produced music videos.
